I bet many of us are asking the same question (s), it's December already or Where did the year go? Hope everyone is doing well, by the sounds of your blogs it seems you are. Busy as bees, but that's what this time of the year is all about. Here in Williams Township it is quite warm today, over 50. So the heat is off and the door is open. I suspect it will be one of the last few days to do this. Not looking like Christmas around here yet, hoping to fix that soo, just haven't got into the spirit yet :-(, not sure why, just not feeling it yet. Can't make this too long as I have work to do today for my real job. Talk to everyone soon. Have a geat day. P.S. Don't worry, the pond does not look like this yet, just need to change that header picture.
After 90 plus hours with out lights, water, heat our power was restored late in the day on Friday. Many of our friends and family in New Jersey are still struggling without power to this day. Les and I work on Friday and Saturday at auctions, so yesterday it was our day off. We just loafed all day, enjoying the comfort of our home. Being the pioneer couple kicked our butts last week. Les kept the woodstove going so that the house stayed warm and we could heat the food up that I had made last weekend. But believe me that got old real fast. We lost all of our food in both our refrig and freezer, so today I was at the grocery store re-stocking. I know that losing our food is nothing compared to one losing their home and or their loved ones. I am not going to go on and on about being taking showers and being warm. We are just thankful that we are. I tryed reading everyone's blogs but on the cell phone is tough, so I gave it up. By the third day of being off the computer I realized that I was not missing it all that much. So, I think I am going to change how much time I spend on the computer and start reading more, which is what I did last week and really did enjoy it. Have a wonderful Monday evening. Please keep all of the people who are still struggling in New Jersey in your prayers.
So, by now everyone must know we are waiting the arrival of Sandy, no not a friend! Hurricane Sandy, Tropical Storm Sandy, Pain in the butt Sandy, I could go on but I think you get the picture. I cooked some one pot meals today in case we lose power which I am sure we will, but I can heat them up on the woodstove. Even our power company thinks so too. I got a e-mail yesterday to be prepared for three days without power and this evening I got a call from the robo and it said be prepared to be without power for seven, ugh. Les and I covered things, moved things and stowed away things. If Sandy should take them, then we were not meant to have them :-). Candles, lanterns, matches, dry wood are all at the ready. We have a half and half celler, half dirt floor and half cement floor, so there will be water, not much we can do there, no generator, just never found the cash to buy one and have it hooked up. Storms windows are pulled down, bathtub filled up (so we can flush), cause once we lose power we lose everything, no water, no toilet, no heat, no stove. Ducks are snug and kitties are too. Stay safe all my East Coast friends and family, keep us in your thoughts.
Good Evening All. Is anyone else wondering what happened to September? It seems like it just was Labor Day Weekend! Tonite is the Full Harvest Moon, so named because it occurs closest the the autmnal equinox. It was pretty bright last evening, so if you didn't see it then, try tonite. I love when I get up at night and the yard is all aglow from the full moon, just makes everything seem alright.
We had a gathering of long time friends at our home yesterday. Weather could have been better, but a good time was had by all. This week we are getting ready for a auction that we are having for a client of ours, this is the third and final auction. Then we have three more auctions that we will be working at before we get a break. No rest for the weary, and we like it just fine. Have a wonderful Fall evening wherever you are. Here is a picture that I borrowed of the Harvest Moon.
If a person could ever have a best buddy and it be a duck then that person is me. My best bud, a.k.a Danger Duck passed away last nite. Many of you know that he was very lame and not getting around very well. It has been years that he and his siblings went outside of the Duck Hilton do to their ages. He and all my other ducks have lived and are still living the life of riley at the Duck Hilton. Cool fans blowing in the Summer along with cool baths and frozen peas :-). In the Winter warm air blowing from the heating ducts and always extra straw in their beds, along with extra food treats to keep them toasty. Les and I figured that Danger Duck was about 23 years old. He came to us as a orphan (dropped off in the Winter at our pond) but left us as my best bud. He learned early on to eat out of my hand, be it corn, spinach or frozen peas and I always had to feed him first or he had a fit :-). My buddy will be very very much missed.
For my regular followers you knew that I would post about the 2nd Full Moon for the month of August. According to my trusty Old Farmers Almanac this is also called the Red Moon. But, whatever it is called it will not happen again until 2015. So, get out tonite and enjoy it, I know I will be.Have a wonderful weekend and a great Labor Day.
Good Monday Morning, This week will bring a slower pace for Les and myself. Last week we were setting up a auction which took place on Friday, but not this week.
This morning we will head out to a work aquanitance of mine who has sold her home and has some "stuff" we may be interested in. Her husband has collected tools and what have you over the years, so we will see. Lately we have been pretty selective in what we are purchasing due to the economy. People are having a hard enough time filling the gas tank and putting food on the table. So, the last thing they need to buy is collectiables and antiques.
We will be getting guests, both family and friends later this month so we are not without things to do. We also are saving our energy for one last BIG auction for our friends who we have been doing a house cleanout for. This will be the last of three auctions we have had for them.
Have a great day and a great week if I don't get back here to say Hello.
Here is a couple of pictures of my ducks. Danger Duck is the Pekin in the tub. He is the Senior Duck. The pair of Black Ducks are my girls, who are waiting for their frozen peas. they know when DD gets a bath they get peas, lol. Have a great evening.
How many of you remember this magazine? How many are addicted to magazines and cannot throw any away? How many of you still have Threads Magazine from Oct./Nov. 1985 (Premier Issue) thru Aug./Sept. 1991? Well I can answer YES to all of the above questions. But, it is time to get rid of stuff and Threads is one of the items that will be leaving my office closet. I tried selling them a few years back and I could not. But, that was before I blogged and now I will offer them to you my friends. It is a total of over 30 magazines and a quick look thru and it does appear that I am missing any, so they are complete years. I would like to get $30.00 for all plus shipping. If you are inerested in them, please e-mail me @ firstname.lastname@example.org. I will keep them until Wednesday August 8th, 2012. Garbage man comes bright and early Thursday morning and as much as it will pain me I have to let them go. Have a great Saturday!!
The above title says it all, for The Duck Hilton that is!! Many of you know that I have ducks and did raise quite a few at one time. I am down to just three senior ducks now. Two girls, they are Black Ducks, hence our antiques business name and one male, who is a Pekin. Danger Duck, the Pekin is older then the girls and does not get around real well. He is blind in one eye and is pretty lame. So, sometimes he gets stuck in corners, etc. and just waits for me to find him and help him out. With all of the hot, humid weather we have been having I have taken to putting him in our laundry tub filled with cool water. Oh, what a blast he has!! :-). My two girls can still get around and they take care of themselves with a plastic tub of water. But, while DD is getting his bath, he and the girls get frozen peas as snacks. OMG, who knew that was the next best thing to sliced bread, or at least my ducks think so. So, if you have ducks maybe even chickens try the frozen peas, I like to think it is to them what a ice pop is to us. Have a wonderful evening and great weekend my friends.
Happy August!! Boy, the Summer is flying by for us, but that is okay, keeping busy keeps us young, lol.
Today August 1st is also one of two full moons this month. Full Moon today is called the Full Sturgeon Moon, named this because it was when this large fish found in the Great Lakes and Lake Champlain was caught easliy at this time.
Today is also Lammas Day. Lammas Day marked the beginning of the harvest.
Hope you have enjoyed these bits of information all from my favorite, Old Farmers Almanac.
The Dog Days of Summer 2012 have begun. Actually they started on Tuesday, same day as the Full Moon.
The DDOS will last until August 11th. With many of us having weird weather let us all hope the DDOS will not be too bad. Found this piece of clipart, thought it might cool us off. Have a wonderful evening.
Tonite, July 3rd 2012 is the Full Buck Moon. Named this because it arrived when male deer started growing new antlers. This Full moon is also called Full Thunder Moon and Full Hay Moon. Step out tonite or if the weather permits take a walk and enjoy the Full Buck Moon.
Can you believe it that it is July already? I guess that is what happens when you are busy and having fun, lol. Here in Williams Township it has been and is hotter then HELL!! When your house is old and you only have window air conditioners and just in two rooms I believe everyone will forgive me for saying H**L!!!!!! Like everyone else we are doing what we can to stay cool and if the heat is all we have to complain about, then we are very, very lucky. Les and I have a very good and long time friend who lives 12 miles from the CO fires, she and her husband are doing fine and ask for eveyone's prayers in keeping their firefighters safe and some RAIN!! Time to do that rain dance for our CO friends.
Happy Canada Day to all of our blogger friends!
This week is a busy week on the calender, Full Moon, Dog Days Begin and the 4th of July.
I cannot remember if I have ever shared pictures of our Girls, Dolly and Maggie (sisters). They are really feeling this unseasonably warm weather that we are having and so is Ginny. No a/c's in the windows yet, so I am typing this sitting in front of the fan, lol. Hope everyone had a great Memorial Day Weekend. Maggie is the 1st one, Dolly the 2nd.
Just popping in to say Happy Memorial Day to everyone. Hope that it is a safe and happy one for you all. Les & I are working (lately we have been doing that alot), but not all weekend, so we will get in a little R & R!! talk to you soon!!
Boy, if it were not for bad news, we here at Ginnysyard would not have any news. Yesterday My older brother Bobby passed away. He was not without health issues, but this came out of the blue! I don't have alot of memories of my brother, you see he was 15 years old when I was born. I was told that he said, "Just what I need another sister". And by the time I was a young girl, he was already out of the house. My one fond memory of him and one that I will keep with me forever, is that when I needed him the most he was there. It was two weeks (or less) before Les & I were to be married and my Father was taken very ill and placed in the hospital, with no chance of giving the "baby" away. So, Bobby stepped up and said I will give you away. He also insisted that after the church that Les & I visit my Dad at the hospital. He must have known something because later that evening my Dad passed away. Like I said he must have known. R.I.P. Big Brother.
Thanks to all my blogging friends for thoughts and prayers after we lost Mr.Mallard. Danger Duck, his best buddy is rather lost without him. You see DD is blind in one eye and very lame, so Mr.Mallard was the leader and DD the follower. But, he is adjusting and a very good companion to me. Thank you all again.
Today is a sad day for me and the other ducks at Ginnysyard. Yesterday Mr.Mallard was feeling poorly, he was about 17 years old, which is getting up there for a duck, so I pulled out the duck hospital (just a smaller cage) put clean straw in it and put him in there for a quite day. Now, for me to be able to pick him up and put him in a cage, I knew he was sick. This was a duck that put himself to bed if he got tired and the door was open on his pen :). I checked on him in a few hours and he had perked up a bit and was drinking water, but I still thought it was a good idea to keep him in the hospital while we were gone for the day. Last night when I went out to close up Duck Hilton, I knew he would not make it though the night. I picked him up, wrapped him in a towel and walked around with him. I let him know that it was okay to fly off to Duck Heaven, kissed his little green head and placed him back in his pen. At some point during the night he went to visit his twin brother. I will miss you Mr.Mallard.
Tonite's full moon is the Pink Moon. So, called the Pink Moon because it heralded the appearance of the moss pink, or wild ground phlox-one of the first spring flowers. Also called Full Sprouting Grass Moon, Full Egg Moon, Full Fish Moon. Hope everyone has a wonderful Spring weekend and a Happy Easter.
After walking around the house, basement, attic and out buildings Les and I decided some items that we have been hanging on to now need to move on. I have included pictures with pricing. If anyone is interested give me a shout out.
What? The extension of Black Duck Antiques (the extension yet to be named)started with a Christmas card. Friends that we met back in 1985 sent us a card and asked if we were still selling and buying antiques because they are selling their home and have "STUFF" that they need to move on. So, off we went to their home in late January to see what they needed to move. Long story short after talking with them (mostly re-living our fun times together)they asked if we would be interested in handling the sale (s) of their household. What? be a picker, arrange estate sales, send items to auction? Are we dreaming? We said YES and have been busy ever since. I should tell you they will be living in a travel trailer until they tire of life on the road. Yes, that's right they are selling everything or I should say we are selling everything, except the real estate. So far, we have had dealers day at the house, this is where we invited antique dealer friends to cherry pick the house. Our friends were able to find some treasures and we made some money for our friends, minus our commission of course. And from this Christmas card, our friends have gotten us another client and maybe a third client (their family Doctor). Now how cool is this!! That our friends think enough of us to refer us to their friends!! So this is why my posts are few and far between and on the short side, except for tonite. So, remember if you need to move stuff, Les & I just be the couple to help you out. Have a great evening and a wonderful Sunday.
February's Full Moon was called the Snow Moon because it was a time of heavy snow. It was also called the Hunger Moon because hunting was difficult and hunger often resulted. Well, some of us may get a bit of Snow tomorrow but it certainly should not be a heavy snow (fingers crossed!!) Hope that you can go out tonite and catch a glimpse of the moon.
I cannot believe that it is already February 1st. Seems like it was just New Year's Day and here we are getting ready for Super Bowl Sunday. Not us, we are not football people, but that is okay we can't all be alike, lol. Well, this year I had thought that I was going to start to blog more, well we can all see that didn't happen. But, I can't say that I have not been busy. Les and I now work for two auctioneers, one every week and the other once or twice a month. We have already did one antique show and are getting ready to do another on the 25th of this month. Plus doing my real job, which I just found out that I will be going on part-time unemployment :(, not happy, but at least I have a job. So, maybe that's why I haven't been posting. Well, I wanted to make this longer but I just got really tired, so I will close for now and I will try and post some more real soon. Still have info to share with all my blog friends.
Tonite January 9th, 2012 is the the Full Wolf Moon. So named this because it (the moon) appeared when wolves howled in hunger outside the villages. The Wolf Moon is also called the Old Moon. Strange, first full moon of the new year and it would have been called the Old Moon. I will need to find out about that version. Have a great evening.
