Our Girls

I cannot remember if I have ever shared pictures of our Girls, Dolly and Maggie (sisters). They are really feeling this unseasonably warm weather that we are having and so is Ginny. No a/c's in the windows yet, so I am typing this sitting in front of the fan, lol. Hope everyone had a great Memorial Day Weekend. Maggie is the 1st one, Dolly the 2nd.

With A Heavy Heart

Boy, if it were not for bad news, we here at Ginnysyard would not have any news. Yesterday My older brother Bobby passed away. He was not without health issues, but this came out of the blue! I don't have alot of memories of my brother, you see he was 15 years old when I was born. I was told that he said, "Just what I need another sister". And by the time I was a young girl, he was already out of the house. My one fond memory of him and one that I will keep with me forever, is that when I needed him the most he was there. It was two weeks (or less) before Les & I were to be married and my Father was taken very ill and placed in the hospital, with no chance of giving the "baby" away. So, Bobby stepped up and said I will give you away. He also insisted that after the church that Les & I visit my Dad at the hospital. He must have known something because later that evening my Dad passed away. Like I said he must have known. R.I.P. Big Brother.

Thank You

Thanks to all my blogging friends for thoughts and prayers after we lost Mr.Mallard. Danger Duck, his best buddy is rather lost without him. You see DD is blind in one eye and very lame, so Mr.Mallard was the leader and DD the follower. But, he is adjusting and a very good companion to me. Thank you all again.

Sad Day at Duck Hilton

Today is a sad day for me and the other ducks at Ginnysyard. Yesterday Mr.Mallard was feeling poorly, he was about 17 years old, which is getting up there for a duck, so I pulled out the duck hospital (just a smaller cage) put clean straw in it and put him in there for a quite day. Now, for me to be able to pick him up and put him in a cage, I knew he was sick. This was a duck that put himself to bed if he got tired and the door was open on his pen :). I checked on him in a few hours and he had perked up a bit and was drinking water, but I still thought it was a good idea to keep him in the hospital while we were gone for the day. Last night when I went out to close up Duck Hilton, I knew he would not make it though the night. I picked him up, wrapped him in a towel and walked around with him. I let him know that it was okay to fly off to Duck Heaven, kissed his little green head and placed him back in his pen. At some point during the night he went to visit his twin brother. I will miss you Mr.Mallard.
