Sad day in Ginnysyard

If a person could ever have a best buddy and it be a duck then that person is me. My best bud, a.k.a Danger Duck passed away last nite. Many of you know that he was very lame and not getting around very well. It has been years that he and his siblings went outside of the Duck Hilton do to their ages. He and all my other ducks have lived and are still living the life of riley at the Duck Hilton. Cool fans blowing in the Summer along with cool baths and frozen peas :-). In the Winter warm air blowing from the heating ducts and always extra straw in their beds, along with extra food treats to keep them toasty. Les and I figured that Danger Duck was about 23 years old. He came to us as a orphan (dropped off in the Winter at our pond) but left us as my best bud. He learned early on to eat out of my hand, be it corn, spinach or frozen peas and I always had to feed him first or he had a fit :-). My buddy will be very very much missed.

  1. Ginny, I am so sorry to read about the loss of your best pal "Danger Duck" 23 years old is impressive. I never realized a duck could live such a lengthy life. I am sure all the TLC you provided greatly helped. Please know I am thinking of you and am so sorry for your loss. Blessings, Julie.

  2. I am so sorry about your loss. My son who lives with us has a lame duck also. We/he made an incubator and two of the ducklings were not able to sit or stand. One passed early on but we still have the female for over a year now. My son made a little wheelchair and she sits in that during the day. It is a sad time when you lose a pet. We lost our border collie this Spring. Gosh, it hurts. Time does help and we have another rescue dog that helps fill the hole. I'm rambling. I'm sorry. I just wanted to leave a consoling message. 3. 23 years old, is truly amazing for a duck! May he live ever after, along with all the ducks and chickens to whom I have bid a fond farewell. No matter, it is hard when you lose a dear little friend. When my goose Fionna died, I cried for 3 days. Sorry for your sadness, I know exactly how you feel.
