Crazy Week

Hope everyone is well and staying warm if you are having the cold, cold weather that has been hanging around for way too long.

We started out having to clean up after yet another storm on Monday and boy it was a heavy snow. Thankfully we did not get the ice/freezing rain but we did get about 5 inches of heavy snow. We followed that up by having to wring out a washer full of wet clothing. Yes, after 27 years my washer has died. Les and I have been kidding with friends on fb that it could have held out for 30 years, but Nooo, lol. So yesterday and today we have been doing our homework online and looking at the big box stores. But, today we took a trip to a local Mom and Pop store to have a peek at what they had to offer. Well, I will not say they are less expensive, far from it but we are getting a Washer that is made in America (Wisconsin) with a three warranty. It will fit in the space that I have so no buying a dryer that I did not need to make the big box store washer work. It will be delivered on Friday of this week, they will haul away the old one and it comes with new hoses (again, unlike the big box store who insist you purchase them). So, what are we getting? A Speed Queen Washer. After seeing it in the store we came home measured and I called to see when we needed to come back and order it and guess what? I did it all on the phone, no running back to the store. Customer Service!!

Our work is not over yet, as we now need to get the standing water out of the old washer, this should be fun, Ha!!

Have a good evening and I will let you know how everything comes out in the wash (had to say it).

Friday Findings

It seemed to me that this week was very loooong. I an sure that the dreadful weather that many of us are experiencing had something to do with it. No plans for the weekend, just hunkering down for another snowy weekend, but I know Spring will be here soon enough. And to prove that, look closely and you can see daffodil sprouts. This was taken a little over a week ago on the South side of our home.

Monday, Monday

We are in a holding pattern with our weather, cold, breezy (see that I used breezy, not windy), snow coming later tonite, hmm...sounds like a broken record.

But we must move along, washer in the back ground means it's a wash day, I try not to wash clothes on the weekend or at least not Sunday, would like to think that is my day of rest. For two people we sure do have lots of laundry, lol.

Later this week Les (hubby) and I have an appointment with a potential client who may want to send some of his treasures to auction, so I will let you know the outcome of that. We were happy to get that call, it proves that advertising no matter how small or big does work.

Have a good day, I am going outside around lunch when the Sun will be high in the sky to move some snow, wish me luck :-).

Happy Presidents' Day friends.

Staying warm

It's been a wild weekend, snow yesterday, wind started last eveing and has not stopped and we may be looking at the coldest day (today/tonite) for the Winter of 2015. But, it is pretty outside, if you ignore the swirling snow and wind, lol. Sun is out but it has not reached 10 degrees yet! So on that note I will certainly,

With some,

And,

Take care, enjoy your Sunday!

Happy Valentine's Day

A bit late with my wishes, but the thought was there all day. Getting ready for the cold, brutal weather
that is headed our way. We had snow off and on today and it's not done yet. Sometime this evening we are going to be hit with a snow squall that will produce whiteout conditions and bring the cold, cold air with it.

Having said all that, we have the tub filled, wood stacked, candles and lanterns at the ready along with sloppy joes and tomato sauce made. The weather people are anticipating lose of power and if that does happen it could be longer then 24 hours. We have a Winter Weather Advisory, High Wind Warning and a Wind Chill Advisory. Winds will be 25 to 35 mph with gusts from 50 to 60 mph. This was not how I would chose to spend my Valentine's Day, but it had to be done or we could be in trouble when this hits.

Have a good evening, stay warm and safe if you are in this latest storms path.

Snow, Ice, Cold - Repeat

Yep that is what the week started out like and will likely end up like, except maybe not the snow and ice. But, wheat we have on the ground will surely stay around for a while, we will be getting a very very cold blast of artic air late the week/weekend. I read on one of my many weather pages where they suggested a person might not want to venture out on Saturday/Sunday do to the cold air. But, it won't be long now, (at least that's what I tell myself) Spring will soon be here, 39 days!! Yippy!!

Hope this brings a bit of a smile to you.

Hope you have a good afternoon and evening friends.

It's Friday

Sunny, bright and COLD here in eastern Pa. 8 degrees when we woke up, wind chill of 4. Brr, makes me cold to tell you.

We are off to our booth in a bit, to pay our monthly rent, put up a couple of shelves that will hold spice tins, tobacco tins, etc. and just tidy up. It always needs tiding up. I did not get out to the shop this week, just too cold. We keep the temps down out in the shop so that we are not looking a a big oil bill for both the house and the shop. But at 50 degrees, things just get cold and stay cold and it takes a while for the the place to heat up. So not much going in this week to the booth, but I will get in gear next week and have treasures o'plenty to take in.

We are looking at yet another storm late on Sunday/Monday so that means moving the snow blower up to the porch this weekend, this is getting real old, lol.

Have a great day and a wonderful weekend.

Nothing New Thursday

Happy Thursday Everyone. Sitting here looking out the window as I type watching the birds flying from here to there trying to stay warm I am sure. It looks beautiful out there in Eastern Pa but boy is it ever windy. Our high which was in the upper 20's was reached early this morning. We also had a dusting of snow but once the snow stopped the winds picked up and have not stopped yet. Got all of my errands done before it was too cold out this morning and  I am still thinking about going out into the shop and poke around in totes for things to take to our booth at Weil Antiques. I have been very good about going to our booth once a week and it certainly has paid off for us.

Hope you are enjoying your Thursday wherever you are. Have a great afternoon and evening, going down in the single digits tonight, so I won't be straying far from my recliner and blanket!

Full Moon

Happy Tuesday! A very cold but sunny day here in Eastern PA. Woke up to 12 degrees with wind chills below zero. But, there is nothing we can do about it except to move forward.

Tonite is a full moon. The full Snow Moon or Hunger Moon. Once the clouds parted last nite the almost full moon certainly did reflect off the snow so if it stays clear tonite I am sure we will be in for another moon lit night.

February's full Moon is called the Snow Moon because it was a time of heavy snow (yes). It was also called the Hunger Moon because hunting was difficult and hunger often resulted. And there you have another fun fact from my favorite, The Old Farmer's Almanac.

If you go out to view the moon, be sure to dress warm.

Have a good evening my friends.

Rodent Alert

Old Punxsy Phil came out at 7:25 am and was in a bad and feisty mood! 6 more weeks of Winter, boo, hiss. Not much that we can do but roll with it.

We received our snow/sleet/ freezing rain/rain over night and into this morning, what a big mess. Les and I bundled up and got our morning workout, boy the slop was heavy but surprising the snow blower did a good job and with my shoveling we cleaned up the driveway, etc. Now we await the rapid freeze that has all of our local weather weenies talking about. Sounds like the next 36 hours are not going to be good or above freezing, tonite we are going down to 8 degrees! Yikes, more wool blankets and two cat nite on the bed.

Hope everyone who is in the path of the latest storm or cold weather stays safe.

Have a great afternoon and evening.

Are you still hanging on to Christmas decorations? Today's the day to take them down!!

Waiting on another storm

Hope all is well with everyone. Here in PA and many other places on the East coast we are waiting for another snowstorm. Anywhere from 12-18 inches is what the weather wieners are saying we could get. Les and I so have cabin fever that it has even rubbed off on to the cats, they were wild today, hissing, spitting, fighting they got it all in or should I say out today!

Thought I would share some February bits with you. These come from the Farmers Almanac.

Feb. 10th (a bit late) - When lunar gardening, the best time to start seeds for annuals and leafy vegetables is between the new and first quarter Moons. Anyone start their seeds yet?

Feb. 12th - St Eulalie Day. If the sun smiles on St. Eulalie's day, It is good for apples and cider they say. Sun was out here for a bit, maybe it helps the buds on the trees?

Feb. 14th - St.Valentine's Day. Hug your honey, it will help keep you warm.

Feb. 14th - Full Snow Moon. Sure hope it stops snowing by then so we can see the moon. Also, Snowdrop flowers may bloom this month, even through the snow. Don't bring them into the house as cut flowers, as it is considered bad luck. With all the cold weather , frozen ground, ice and snow if the little snowdrops will poke their heads up?

And some very special news that I can finally share with you, Les will be starting Auctioneers School in March. This is something that he has thought long and hard about and decided that it was now or never. I will keep you posted on his progress.

Have a good evening, stay safe if you need to travel in the East over the next few days.

Calm Before The Storm

Today we started the day with a bit of snow, then rain and then for hours nothing! But, the weather weenies still say it's coming.

Bird feeders are filled, ducks are tucked in for the night one cat is curled up on a fleece blanket (not too spoiled, lol) and the other cat has decided it is time to run amuck thru the house, yikes!!

Snow blower filled and ready to go, bath tub filled, wood waiting on the porch. New Country Living arrived today  :-).

We are ready, bring it on.

Have a wonderful evening friends. Stay safe and warm. Good thoughts being sent to friends in New England.

Tuesday Auction

The dusting of snow we received last evening won't be a problem for us getting to the auction today.  But, as I was gathering my stuff together I realized I did not show you what I got last week, jezzzz leave it to me. So here you go. All of it is smalls and I still need to take a few more pictures but this is a sampling of what I sometimes find at our weekly auction in Bally, PA. My favorite is the little kids boots! But I really like it all :-). Have a good day no matter what you are doing.

No Joke!!

Yes, we did get snow, yes, it is wet, heavy snow. It was snowing at 5:30 a.m. this morning but it did not start sticking until about 8:00 a.m. and then boy oh boy did it come down. It just raining now, and it is damp and gray. Not very festive for April Fool's Day!! Les and I are going to the Lehigh Valley Auto Show this afternoon. This is not something that we normally do, but Les said he would like to go and walk around, exercise will do us good. So, that is where we are headed in a little while, hope everyone has a great weekend. Enjoy the Spring weather, LOL

Dud or Whopper ?

If you had asked me last evening after listening to the weather weenies I would have said that the storm had the makings of a whopper, but low and behold tonite the six o'clock news said we (Lehigh Valley) had been down graded to a Winter Weather Advisory. This was after this morning we were under a Winter Storm Warning. So, while I do believe that March is going out like a lion, it's not a lion that we can't handle and I proclaim it's a Dud!! Let's all hope that this is the end of the snow until Dec.2011, say the 24th or 25th!! It does sound like our friends in the New England area will get the worst of this storm. Let's pray that it's a Dud for them as well. Have a good evening friends.

It's Back

I think Old Lady Winter came back. Had three inches of snow on the ground at 8:00 a.m. and it has been sleeting, raining snowing off and on all day. Only about 33 degrees. Tonite, it all changes to snow and we are expected to get a coating to 2 inches. It just won't let go of us. It was a good bad to stay put and work on our books. Take inventory out, put inventory in. Pay sales tax and get get everything ready to send off to the accountant. Yes, I'm one of those who waits and waits. LOL. Just noticed that the wind is picking up a bit, great we will probably loose power!! Have a good evening folks.

Spring? What Spring?

Well this morning at 5:45 a.m. it was snowing to beat the bands, then rain, then sleet, then snow again. Delayed school openings not too far from us, oh my. Even the ducks are ticked off, I guess they thought they were heading outside today, seeing as it was Spring!! Township truck went by a short while ago, spreading salt!! And the weather weenies say we can expect more of this on Wednesday!! Well, let's hope between today and Wednesday's weather this will be our Onion snow and then we are done. I will not shovel anymore snow. How's that for showing them who's boss!! LOL. I was reminded by a very dear friend that it was time to change my header picture. She must have been reading my mind. That should happen in the next few days, I want the sun to be out before I go showing you early Spring at Ginnysyard. Have a great day friends.

Happy President's Day

Hope everyone is enjoying their day off, if you have it off. If not, just enjoy your day anyway. We had a bit of snow overnite, so tired of snow. But, it's still Winter and it's February, seems like it's been Winter since Novemeber!! I do not have off today, but I won't be too busy, just don't have alot of work when you work in construction and it's WINTER, have I said that enough, LOL. We will start to get ready for a show this coming Saturday, it's in Long Valley, NJ. First time setting up. More info to follow on the show, etc.

It's National Blueberry Pancake Day

I think this food holiday should have been yesterday when we were snowed in. But, what's to say we can't have these for dinner. Les & I enjoy having breakfast for dinner some days. Well here at ginnysyard we are just about dug out. Cars need to cleaned off, that will happen shortly. We will be headed over to our booth (#145) at Weil Antiques Center. Haven't been there in about a week, need to check, fluff up and add a few items. One item that I am adding is a wood sewing box. I was over at Holly Hills Primitives and Dawn posted a picture with the idea of using the sewing box to hold all of the remotes that so many of us have. I was thinking about putting the box in the booth before reading her blog, but now I have a cleaver idea to let our customers know that there is another idea for the box. Hope everyone has a great day and enjoy those Blueberry Pancakes if you are so inclined.
