It's Friday

Sunny, bright and COLD here in eastern Pa. 8 degrees when we woke up, wind chill of 4. Brr, makes me cold to tell you.

We are off to our booth in a bit, to pay our monthly rent, put up a couple of shelves that will hold spice tins, tobacco tins, etc. and just tidy up. It always needs tiding up. I did not get out to the shop this week, just too cold. We keep the temps down out in the shop so that we are not looking a a big oil bill for both the house and the shop. But at 50 degrees, things just get cold and stay cold and it takes a while for the the place to heat up. So not much going in this week to the booth, but I will get in gear next week and have treasures o'plenty to take in.

We are looking at yet another storm late on Sunday/Monday so that means moving the snow blower up to the porch this weekend, this is getting real old, lol.

Have a great day and a wonderful weekend.

Mid January

Good Evening Everyone!

It's already January 15th and I have not wished all of my friends a very Happy New Year. My last post was about our antiques show in November and then I think I went to sleep, lol.

What we thought was going to be a kick back and chill December turned out just the opposite. We worked three weekends with our auctioneer in additional to our regular Tuesday auctions of which some were cancelled thus having to pick-up Saturday/Sunday work.

We were also expecting family/friend to come for Christmas/New Year's visit but that did not happen which I do have to say weather played a part in that.

And then the Wednesday before Christmas my last duck past away. This hit me like a ton of bricks. I raised ducks from day one of moving to Pennsylvania way back in February of 1988. I am getting better, but I do forget and say to my self  "oh I need to go check on the duck".

So, now we are in mid January and stuff is happening which I will save for another post, that way I won't be at a lost for words and not blog, like that would ever happen.

Have a good evening and if you have a clear sky, go check out that Full Wolf Moon.

Happy December

Hope all of you are doing well and not stressing yourselves out, Ha Ha. Yes, we all do it no matter what we tell ourselves.

Our antiques show last weekend was a hit, best one that we have had at this venue. Now its time to get ready for the next one which is in early March, never too early to start buying those treasures that our wonderful customer's are looking for.

I have not started to decorate yet :-(  around the house so I thought that maybe I would start with my blog and that will get me started.

Have a wonderful and festive weekend no matter what you do. Just take care of yourself.

Happy Thanksgiving

Wishing all of my friends near and far, a Happy Thanksgiving.

Here are some pictures from around Ginnysyard. We are getting ready for a antiques show this weekend. This is one of our favorites. Wish us luck, taking lots of different stuff, furniture, textiles, advertising, industrial.

Have a great weekend everyone.

My little girl.

Our pond with a dusting of snow on Tuesday morning. And yes that is a thin layer of ice under the snow.

Our pewter hutch, captured this shot later in the day.

More photo's of our Booth

Here are some additional photo's of our booth. I should add that some of the items in these photo's sold two days after I shot these. Now that is what we call a quick turn around. BIG SMILE.

The pile of wood items (really shutters and some type of wood hangers) were a few of the items that sold. We really have very good luck with any type of shutters that we sell. Hey maybe I am selling them too cheap, lol.

The blue and white bowl in the lower right corner is another item that sold. It is from Bavaria/Germany, good shape, no chips.

As you can see, still plenty of items, but this week I will be taking more in and moving things around. A day in the life of a antiques dealer who has lots of stuff, lol.

Have a great day!! Off to work at our Tuesday Auction and maybe find another treasure of two. Oh wait, didn't I just say we have too much stuff!!! Ha Ha

Our Booth

From time to time I have spoken about our booth at Weil Antique Center and I thought it was about time I give you gals a look at what we have to offer. Our booth is a 9 x 10, I believe.

This is a picture of the back wall. The wire basket/shelf things are not old, but I got them at a good price and sometimes I can move things like that.

Who doesn't love chicken crates. It's been awhile seen we have been able to pick any up, but we got this one at our Tuesday Auction that Les and I work at.

Les and I both love signs, very surprised that this has not moved on yet. Also, in this picture is tobacco tins, buttons in mason jars, band boxes (not old) and a serving set of blue willow on the wall table.
So, there you have it. I have more but I don't want to bore everyone with photo's and this way I have more for another post.

While not all our merchandise is antique, it is what is selling in our region currently. And one must go with the flow or go broke :-).

Have a wonderful rest of the day and a good evening. Is is beautiful out here in Williams Township, PA.

First weekend of March

Good Evening All, We are gearing up for a busy weekend. We set-up at the Governor Wolf Historical Society today for our first antique show of the 2013 season. It was great to see many friends that we have not seen since last year. I will be my lonesome tomorrow as Les has a pick-up to do with one of the auctioneer's that we work for. But, I'm up for it as I will be surround by friends who are always eager to help out. Wish us luck! I already sold a cast iron Santa while we were setting up, so maybe that is a omen that we will have a good show.

Talk to you soon. Have a great night and weekend.

Auction Time

Yep, today is our Tuesday Auction, the day we work at yet another part-time job, we have many. Not that we are complaining :-), we both love the auction scene.

I have my eye on a few things that are coming up today, we will see how that develops :-).

Antique show is coming up in the beginning of March and we need "stuff". Some would say we have "stuff" but your new "stuff" always goes first. Happy :-) because we are selling, sad :-( because it is a two day show and we want people to come in our booth the second day!

Hope all is well with you my friends. Warmer weather today, but BIG RAIN is coming tomorrow, 1-3 inches!!!

Take care, have a great day and I will be back soon.

OH Yeah!!!

If you remember back on Tuesday of this week Les and I were off to work at the weekly auction and I was going to look at what was being called a bakers rack. Well, we had a indication that it was not a bakers rack but in fact a wooden rack from a shoe factory. I have wanted one of these racks FOREVER, FOREVER I tell you. And low and behold guess what I got? You are right!!! I got the shoe rack.

It is in pretty good shape, needs a bit of cleaning but it is solid and I paid a very fair price for it. We need to move some furniture around and send some to our booth at Weil Antique Center and some might even go to auction. But, that's okay because I got my rack and I LOVE it.

Here are two pictures of it. Nothing on it yet, just a crock on the lower shelf, but you just wait until it is decked out :-).

Thanks for stopping by and have a great rest of the weekend. And don't forget to go out and see that Full Wolf Moon.

WINTER!!!!!!

Well, it feels like Winter has finally arrived. 14.5 degress with a wind chill of 1 this morning. Pond is frozen on the perimeter but the middle is fine. That is where the Canada Geese stayed all night. About 35 - 40 flew in late yesterday. They are sunning themselves on the hill side now, poor guys but they are probably warmer then me :-).

Tuesdays are our work day at the auction house. Thank God we are inside!! Got my eye on what is being called a baker's rack, but I need to see what it looks like in person first.

Have a wonderful day and stay warm.

Till next time.

Not So Busy Week

Good Monday Morning, This week will bring a slower pace for Les and myself. Last week we were setting up a auction which took place on Friday, but not this week.

This morning we will head out to a work aquanitance of mine who has sold her home and has some "stuff" we may be interested in. Her husband has collected tools and what have you over the years, so we will see. Lately we have been pretty selective in what we are purchasing due to the economy. People are having a hard enough time filling the gas tank and putting food on the table. So, the last thing they need to buy is collectiables and antiques.

We will be getting guests, both family and friends later this month so we are not without things to do. We also are saving our energy for one last BIG auction for our friends who we have been doing a house cleanout for. This will be the last of three auctions we have had for them.

Have a great day and a great week if I don't get back here to say Hello.

It All Started With A Christmas Card.......

What? The extension of Black Duck Antiques (the extension yet to be named)started with a Christmas card. Friends that we met back in 1985 sent us a card and asked if we were still selling and buying antiques because they are selling their home and have "STUFF" that they need to move on. So, off we went to their home in late January to see what they needed to move. Long story short after talking with them (mostly re-living our fun times together)they asked if we would be interested in handling the sale (s) of their household. What? be a picker, arrange estate sales, send items to auction? Are we dreaming? We said YES and have been busy ever since. I should tell you they will be living in a travel trailer until they tire of life on the road. Yes, that's right they are selling everything or I should say we are selling everything, except the real estate. So far, we have had dealers day at the house, this is where we invited antique dealer friends to cherry pick the house. Our friends were able to find some treasures and we made some money for our friends, minus our commission of course. And from this Christmas card, our friends have gotten us another client and maybe a third client (their family Doctor). Now how cool is this!! That our friends think enough of us to refer us to their friends!! So this is why my posts are few and far between and on the short side, except for tonite. So, remember if you need to move stuff, Les & I just be the couple to help you out. Have a great evening and a wonderful Sunday.

Time, where does it go?

I cannot believe that it is already February 1st. Seems like it was just New Year's Day and here we are getting ready for Super Bowl Sunday. Not us, we are not football people, but that is okay we can't all be alike, lol. Well, this year I had thought that I was going to start to blog more, well we can all see that didn't happen. But, I can't say that I have not been busy. Les and I now work for two auctioneers, one every week and the other once or twice a month. We have already did one antique show and are getting ready to do another on the 25th of this month. Plus doing my real job, which I just found out that I will be going on part-time unemployment :(, not happy, but at least I have a job. So, maybe that's why I haven't been posting. Well, I wanted to make this longer but I just got really tired, so I will close for now and I will try and post some more real soon. Still have info to share with all my blog friends.

So Long August

I am never happy to see a month, especially a Summer month. But, this August has had it's ups and downs for us and I can't say that I am sad to see it go. We have been very busy, almost to the point that I can't really remember what all happened, now that is scary!! We have had two antique shows, one brand new and one a repeat show. We did okay at both, wish I could say they were great, but it is just this darn economy that has people stuck and who can blame them. We had my sister's memorial this month, which brought family together, some of which we had not seen in 8 years. Way too long, and hopefully the promises that were made to stay in contact and see each other more will hold true. And then we had hurricane Irene, also my sister's name who the memorial was for. Was she telling our family something? I know I was not the only one thinking that! My real job has slowed up again, economy again and it does not show signs of picking up for the rest of the year, so it maybe another Winter of unemployment, so not looking forward to that. So, time to get on with September. Have a great day friends

July !!

Boy, where does the time go. It seems like I was just saying that at the beginning of June, and here it is July 5th. Hope everyone had a great 4th. We did!! Had dinner in NJ on Friday nite with some friends, one of which we have not seen for 37 years!! Last we saw her was at our wedding. Saturday and Sunday found us kickin' back on the screened porch and as Les said " doing what we darn well please". We are taking advantage of our down time. Shows will be picking back up before we know it and then we go until November!! Yikes, hope we have enough inventory to make it until then, lol. We always get panicky, but we do just fine. Dog Days of Summer started on Sunday the 3rd and according to the Old Farmers Almanac, Dog days bright and clear, indicate a happy year!! Sunday was bright and clear, so to all my friends I wish you a Happy Year!! Now go out and do something fun!!

Estate Sale

Last Friday Les and I took a trip to New Jersey to attend an Estate Sale. Antiques were listed as one of the items and yes there were antiques, but many were too rich for this dealer to be able to turn around and make a buck. But, we did not leave empty handed. Many of the items in the pictures will go into our booth at Weil Antiques Center. and some just may be come part of my household, LOL. Hope everyone enjoys the weekend. We have a couple of events planned, one being that we have company arriving early next week, Whoa!! need to get this placed picked up a bit.

Where does the time go?

I just realized that I have been wanting to post for a week now. But,like Les posted on FB yesterday, he does not plan on leaving the house today because we have been going full tilt for 12 days now.Two Antique Shows two weeks apart, working three auctions two weeks apart and life in general has kept us on our toes to say the least. But, I had to show off my new purchase. I rarely shop at a antique show that I am set-up at. No time, don't want to spend the money, on and on it goes. But at our last show Les was asked by a long time friend and dealer to come look at a dry sink that he had. He came back and said you need to see this, I (Les) said he wouldn't really call it a dry sink, he thought more of a blanket chest. I LOVE blanket chests and have a few in our inventory that are not selling. But, off I went and fell in LOVE with this sweet little piece. Agreed on a very fair price and it was brought to our booth a short time later. Later on in the afternoon, our neighbor next to us at the show asked Les if he knew what I had bought. Les said, yeah a small blanket chest. Nope, I bought a commode chest, not really seen in the North much, more of a southern piece. Isn't it sweet. Thanks for stopping by, talk to you soon.

Been Busy Doing Stuff

Not sure where the first half of this month went. I have been busy with my Mon-Fri. job in the constrution business. Things are picking up a bit, so I need to be on board with that. Also, show season is picking up. We have had shows in January and February, of which we had not had in the past, so that is a good thing. And this past weekend we had a two day show. We were very happy that the rain had stopped by the time we needed to load in on Friday and that the rest of the weekend was rain free. Shows take alot out of people, pack your truck, load into the venue, set-up, selling (hopefully), break down, pack the van and then unload the van. Very much I'm guessing the same as if I had a retail store that I needed to prepare for customers, except I don't get to stay put!! But, we are very happy that we do have customers in today's economy when there is so much I'm sure that they could spend their money on. I have been reading everyone's blogs about their Spring decorating/events, I just didn't have time to post on my own blog, but I did comment on many of yours. Need to get in gear and get some things done. Hope everyone has a great Monday. The above picture is where we set-up this past weekend.
