Full Moon

Happy Tuesday! A very cold but sunny day here in Eastern PA. Woke up to 12 degrees with wind chills below zero. But, there is nothing we can do about it except to move forward.

Tonite is a full moon. The full Snow Moon or Hunger Moon. Once the clouds parted last nite the almost full moon certainly did reflect off the snow so if it stays clear tonite I am sure we will be in for another moon lit night.

February's full Moon is called the Snow Moon because it was a time of heavy snow (yes). It was also called the Hunger Moon because hunting was difficult and hunger often resulted. And there you have another fun fact from my favorite, The Old Farmer's Almanac.

If you go out to view the moon, be sure to dress warm.

Have a good evening my friends.

Waiting on another storm

Hope all is well with everyone. Here in PA and many other places on the East coast we are waiting for another snowstorm. Anywhere from 12-18 inches is what the weather wieners are saying we could get. Les and I so have cabin fever that it has even rubbed off on to the cats, they were wild today, hissing, spitting, fighting they got it all in or should I say out today!

Thought I would share some February bits with you. These come from the Farmers Almanac.

Feb. 10th (a bit late) - When lunar gardening, the best time to start seeds for annuals and leafy vegetables is between the new and first quarter Moons. Anyone start their seeds yet?

Feb. 12th - St Eulalie Day. If the sun smiles on St. Eulalie's day, It is good for apples and cider they say. Sun was out here for a bit, maybe it helps the buds on the trees?

Feb. 14th - St.Valentine's Day. Hug your honey, it will help keep you warm.

Feb. 14th - Full Snow Moon. Sure hope it stops snowing by then so we can see the moon. Also, Snowdrop flowers may bloom this month, even through the snow. Don't bring them into the house as cut flowers, as it is considered bad luck. With all the cold weather , frozen ground, ice and snow if the little snowdrops will poke their heads up?

And some very special news that I can finally share with you, Les will be starting Auctioneers School in March. This is something that he has thought long and hard about and decided that it was now or never. I will keep you posted on his progress.

Have a good evening, stay safe if you need to travel in the East over the next few days.

Full Snow Moon

February's Full Moon was called the Snow Moon because it was a time of heavy snow. It was also called the Hunger Moon because hunting was difficult and hunger often resulted. Well, some of us may get a bit of Snow tomorrow but it certainly should not be a heavy snow (fingers crossed!!) Hope that you can go out tonite and catch a glimpse of the moon.

Full Moon

Tonight is the Full Beaver Moon, named so because it was the time to set beaver traps, before the waters froze over. It is also called Full Frost Moon. No pictures of the moon, due to rain that is falling, though it is suppose to stop and get cooler, possible frost. Things have been pretty quite around Ginnysyard, still cleaning up from the Snowtober that dumped 12 + inches on us. Without power for 30 hours. And if any of my friends live in a old house like ours, when the power goes out and stays out for any length of time, things begin to happen. Like we needed the well pump person to come out and put new parts on the pump to the tune of $176.00. Ducks and cats all survived the storm. Cats camped out with us as we bedded down around the woodstove, they loved it!! I had my second and last visit with the ortho doctor yesterday. My knee is healing well, just more exercises and keep moving. Well, that is it for me. Hope everyone is well. Have a great evening, check out that moon if you don't have clouds.

Full Snow Moon

Well, after a beautiful day tonite we should be able to see the Full Snow Moon or some like to call it Full Hunger Moon. It is at this time that we could get heavy snow (Full Snow Moon) therefore making it difficult to hunt (Full Hunger Moon). I plan to check it out tonite, shouldn't be cold and I'm not going hunting, so what else do I have to do!! LOL. Have a good weekend. Off to work at a auction tomorrow, hope to score some good stuff, lots of shows coming up.
