Tonite January 9th, 2012 is the the Full Wolf Moon. So named this because it (the moon) appeared when wolves howled in hunger outside the villages. The Wolf Moon is also called the Old Moon. Strange, first full moon of the new year and it would have been called the Old Moon. I will need to find out about that version. Have a great evening.

Tonight Is The Night

Winter Solstice that is. At 12:30 a.m. Winter will begin. Time for all of us to get our books, our craft projects or whatever floats your boat in order because once Christmas is over we will be looking for things to do on those long Winter's nights. I have a couple of things in mind that I want to get done. Some reading, some clearing the clutter and somethings that I will keep a secret for now. My food and gift giving shopping is all done. Tree is not up yet. But it is only a small tree and it is more like a Winter tree they a Christmas tree. It will go up tomorrow or Friday. Baking will begin tomorrow along with the cooking of tomato sauce for Christmas dinner. It is just Les and I and it has become our tradition to have some type of pasta and just enjoy the day and each other. I hope whatever is on your plate you will have it clean so that you too can enjoy the day and yourself. Merry Christmas.

In Germany, it is customary to give fruit, nuts and candy to children on St. Nicholas's feast day. Seems like a fun kind of day. I wonder if this is still celebrated somewhere today. Hope everyone is fine and well. I won't even ask if you are busy! Who isn't at this time of year. Les and I are expecting a guest sometime this month, not sure when, so everyday something needs to get cleaned or put away. Full Moon

Tonight is the Full Beaver Moon, named so because it was the time to set beaver traps, before the waters froze over. It is also called Full Frost Moon. No pictures of the moon, due to rain that is falling, though it is suppose to stop and get cooler, possible frost. Things have been pretty quite around Ginnysyard, still cleaning up from the Snowtober that dumped 12 + inches on us. Without power for 30 hours. And if any of my friends live in a old house like ours, when the power goes out and stays out for any length of time, things begin to happen. Like we needed the well pump person to come out and put new parts on the pump to the tune of $176.00. Ducks and cats all survived the storm. Cats camped out with us as we bedded down around the woodstove, they loved it!! I had my second and last visit with the ortho doctor yesterday. My knee is healing well, just more exercises and keep moving. Well, that is it for me. Hope everyone is well. Have a great evening, check out that moon if you don't have clouds.

St.Luke's Little Summer

Tomorrow, October 18th, Is St.Luke's Little Summer. This is a spell of warm weather that occurs on or near St.Luke's feast day and is sometimes called Indian summer. It is not our Indian summer just yet here in the Lehigh Valley of PA, as we have not had a hard frost yet. St.Luke's Day info came from my all time favorite, Old Farmer's Almanac. I really can't answer that. Not because I don't want to, but because I don't know where September went. I do know that I have done three antique shows since August 1st, so yes that took up sometime. Hung out on the screen porch when it was not raining and blowing in on me and oh yeah, I have been nursing a very sore left knee. So, I have not been moving around too much. It turns out that I have a torn cartilage in my left knee and I will have surgery on Tuesday. I will be home that day and my sweet husband will be taking care of me. Along, with the cats and ducks!! lol. I will post again later this week. Keep me in your thoughts.

Full Harvest Moon

Tonight, Septemeber 12th is the Full Harvest Moon. The Harvest Moon is always the full Moon closet to the autumnal equinox. If the Harvest Moon occurs in October, the September full Moon is usually called the Corn Moon. Seeing as the autumnal equinox is on the 23rd of September, I believe this will be our Harvest Moon. Hope it will be clear where you are so that your can check it out. I know I will be if the clouds will go away!

So Long August

I am never happy to see a month, especially a Summer month. But, this August has had it's ups and downs for us and I can't say that I am sad to see it go. We have been very busy, almost to the point that I can't really remember what all happened, now that is scary!! We have had two antique shows, one brand new and one a repeat show. We did okay at both, wish I could say they were great, but it is just this darn economy that has people stuck and who can blame them. We had my sister's memorial this month,which brought family together,some of which we had not seen in 8 years. Way too long, and hopefully the promises that were made to stay in contact and see each other more will hold true. And then we had hurricane Irene, also my sister's name who the memorial was for. Was she telling our family something? I know I was not the only one thinking that! My real job has slowed up again, economy again and it does not show signs of picking up for the rest of the year, so it maybe another Winter of unemployment, so not looking forward to that. So, time to get on with September. Have a great day friends

Cat Nights

Yes, that is right. Cat Nights begin tonite August 17th. The term harks back to the days when people believed in witches. You mean they don't now?, lol. An Irish legend says that that a witch could turn into a cat and regain herself eight times, but on the ninth time (August 17), she couldn't change back, hence the saying "A cat has nine lives." Because August is a "yowly" time for cats, this may have initially prompted the speculation about witches on the prowl.

Lammas Day (August 1)

On this day, July 25, 1896 our Nana received a Christian Baptism at the mere age of 4 months and 17 days. And on this day, July 25, 2011 our sister Irene passed away. It is our belief that Nana knew she was not healthy and not living her life to the fullest and called her to be with her and our Mom, Dad and most recently her youngest daughter who passed this February. My day began with the phone call that Irene had passed early this morning and ended with me saying goodbye to her at the funeral home. Due to the lack of life insurance and funds, because she had been ill for so long it was decided that she would be cremated tomorrow, but our family was given time late this afternoon to say our goodbyes and send her on her way. Please keep our family in your thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.

Boy, where does the time go. It seems like I was just saying that at the beginning of June, and here it is July 5th. Hope everyone had a great 4th. We did!! Had dinner in NJ on Friday nite with some friends, one of which we have not seen for 37 years!! Last we saw her was at our wedding. Saturday and Sunday found us kickin' back on the screened porch and as Les said " doing what we darn well please". We are taking advantage of our down time. Shows will be picking back up before we know it and then we go until November!! Yikes, hope we have enough inventory to make it until then, lol. We always get panicky, but we do just fine. Dog Days of Summer started on Sunday the 3rd and according to the Old Farmers Almanac, Dog days bright and clear, indicate a happy year!! Sunday was bright and clear, so to all my friends I wish you a Happy Year!! Now go out and do something fun!!

Estate Sale

Last Friday Les and I took a trip to New Jersey to attend an Estate Sale. Antiques were listed as one of the items and yes there were antiques, but many were too rich for this dealer to be able to turn around and make a buck. But, we did not leave empty handed. Many of the items in the pictures will go into our booth at Weil Antiques Center. and some just may be come part of my household, LOL. Hope everyone enjoys the weekend. We have a couple of events planned, one being that we have company arriving early next week, Whoa!! need to get this placed picked up a bit.

I just realized that I have been wanting to post for a week now. But,like Les posted on FB yesterday, he does not plan on leaving the house today because we have been going full tilt for 12 days now.Two Antique Shows two weeks apart, working three auctions two weeks apart and life in general has kept us on our toes to say the least. But, I had to show off my new purchase. I rarely shop at a antique show that I am set-up at. No time, don't want to spend the money, on and on it goes. But at our last show Les was asked by a long time friend and dealer to come look at a dry sink that he had. He came back and said you need to see this, I (Les) said he wouldn't really call it a dry sink, he thought more of a blanket chest. I LOVE blanket chests and have a few in our inventory that are not selling. But, off I went and fell in LOVE with this sweet little piece. Agreed on a very fair price and it was brought to our booth a short time later. Later on in the afternoon, our neighbor next to us at the show asked Les if he knew what I had bought. Les said, yeah a small blanket chest. Nope, I bought a commode chest, not really seen in the North much, more of a southern piece. Isn't it sweet. Thanks for stopping by, talk to you soon.

Hi Fellow Bloggers, It's been two weeks to the day that I posted. In all honesty I had nothing to say, LOL. Rainy weather had in a funky mood and at the same time my real job picked up. I work in new home construction and I am 3/4's of the way in finishing a townhouse. So, it's not like I have been sitting around, but just doing "stuff". I have been checking inon all of my many friends when I can and commenting as well. Hope everyone had a safe and happy Memorial Day Weekend. Les & I worked at a auction on Saturday and enjoyed sitting on our screened porch the rest of the weekend. Bright and early this morning we installed two a/c's, one in our bedroom and one in my office. Not like we needed them here in hot, hot Pennsylvania!! Well, still have some work to do before I call it a day. Talk to all of you soon.

Full Moon

Tonite is the Full Flower Moon, so named because blossoms were abundant everywhere at this time. Maybe, for some but not all. Here is PA we are locked into yet another wet and windy week. It doesn't look like we will see the Sun until late this week. My perfect excuse for not doing gardening, LOL. No, really I would much rather be outside, but if it needs to rain let it rain during the week. Les & I work on Saturday (outside) at a auction and then on Sunday we have a antiques show (again outside) that we will be setting up at. Special Day

Thirty-Seven years ago today, May 4th, 1974, Les and I were married in a small chapel in the town that we grew up in, Metuchen, NJ. Unlike today the weather was beautiful. Blue skies, puffy clouds and WINDY!! So windy that I have a picture of us leaving the chapel and my veil getting wrapped around a column. I can still hear all the women gasping and runny to help me as I was being pulled backwards! So, what did we do today you ask? Nothing, Zip, Not a Thing. We did go out to our favorite seafood place nearby for a very, very, good dinner, drinks, dessert, coffee, in others words THE WORKS. Hope you have had a day just as wonderful as ours.

May Day & Gettin' The Porch Ready

Happy May Day Friends. While the day started out sunny it clouded over but I still managed to get a picture of our Redbud Tree down by the pond. And if you look to the lower left you can see Momma and the goslings. The babes are sitting down but that yellow that you are seeing in the grass is the goslings. Still no sight of the other family. I try and not think about it, because like I said in a earlier post they have done this before. Les and I have been busy getting our screen porch ready for the Summer. And to do that we need to move our business inventory around. Over the Winter we use the screen porch as a storage area when we can't get out to our sheds. And we all know how much snow we had around these parts, so the porch was pretty full. We had been outside for about four hours today. We moved furniture, plastic totes (we keep small items in these)and we have moved porch furniture, and we still are not done. But, we ran out of energy. Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend. Gosling Update Round 2

We think that all of the goslings that have hatched to date will be it. We have two familys, the legals and the illegals. The legals had a total of 8 goslings, illegals had a total of 5. So, there was a total of 17 Canadian Geese. Yes I said was. The other night our neigbor came to cut the lawn and scared all of the goslings, Moms and Dads into the pond. They all swam to the other side of the pond got out and then quickly got back in because the neigbor was cutting the lawn on that side. So, after the terrifying experience the legals up and left. Now mind you they need to walk, one day old goslings can not fly. This has happened before when we have two families, but it still is a bit concerning. We are also a bit upset with our neighbor, we told him that they were down by the pond and usually he is great about that. He is a real outdoorsman, hunts, fishes, birdwatching, so I don't know what happen to him. So that is our story. The illegals are around all the time, teaching the babies the way of life, but I wish the others would return as well. More updates to follow I'm sure.

Gosling Update

This morning I got my first real look at the new family. There are a total of eight goslings!! So cute, they can hardly stand but they are up and eating grass, Yummy!! Also, we discovered that we have a second family across the pond who has hatched about four, well that was what I could see. That family must have been here illegal, LOL because they kept themselves very hidden. Life at ginnysyard should prove to be interesting this Spring. Enjoy this day my friends.

Goslings

Well, they hatched. Our resident pair, a.k.a Mr. & Mrs. Goose have been here for about 2 months. For the last month she has been sitting on her nest. Well yesterday we watched her, fussing and fixing. She just could not get comfortable. Well, now we know why. The goslings must have been pecking the eggs to get out. She even got off the nest to take a bath. She must have wanted to look good for the big event! LOL I only spotted one this morning, but I'm sure there are more. When we can we will get some pictures of the next generation.

Down and Out

Yep, that has been me since Sunday morning. Got hit with a very nasty stomach virus that sent me to the doctor's on Monday morning. Have to take antacids for 15 days, have had to be on the BRAT diet, Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, Toast. Today was the first morning I felt a bit hungry and ventured to have a bit of cereal with a splash of milk. I have lots of work (real job) to catch up on. Hope everyone has a great day. And stay healthy, cause you do not want what I had!!

Another Week Down

Boy, not sure where this week has gone! I was busy with work (my real job), tax time and with my company not having a home office, except in my home. Alot of time was spent on the phone with the company accountant. But, that is done for another six months or so. So, what is everyone's plans for the weekend? We are going to meet up with a couple of friends tomorrow for lunch. We are going to Lahaska, PA, just outside of New Hope. Wish the weather was going to be better, sounds like it will be raining just as we gather for lunch. Oh well, can't change Mother Nature. It does sound like it will be nice for Palm Sunday though. If it is, I think that we will be hauling inventory out of our sheds to see what we have to sell. We have shows now booked through August, yikes we better find stuff in those sheds. It's Show Time

Yes, we are off to another Antiques Show. This one is not too far from our home. It is in New Hope, Pa. It is our four year doing this show. Easy load in (even in the rain,ugh), we have six hours if we need it to set-up, free coffee and donuts to help us along. It is a one day show, Saturday April 9th and it benefits the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. Admission is $5.00. Location is Eagle Fire Hall,Rt.202 and Sugan Road, New Hope, PA. Yes, we did get snow, yes, it is wet,heavy snow. It was snowing at 5:30 a.m. this morning but it did not start sticking until about 8:00 a.m. and then boy oh boy did it come down. It just raining now, and it is damp and gray. Not very festive for April Fool's Day!! Les and I are going to the Lehigh Valley Auto Show this afternoon. This is not something that we normally do, but Les said he would like to go and walk around, exercise will do us good. Dud or Whopper ?

If you had asked me last evening after listening to the weather weenies I would have said that the storm had the makings of a whopper, but low and behold tonite the six o'clock news said we (Lehigh Valley) had been down graded to a Winter Weather Advisory. This was after this morning we were under a Winter Storm Warning. So, while I do believe that March is going out like a lion, it's not a lion that we can't handle and I proclaim it's a Dud!! Let's all hope that this is the end of the snow until Dec.2011, say the 24th or 25th!! It does sound like our friends in the New England area will get the worst of this storm. Let's pray that it's a Dud for them as well. Have a good evening friends.

It's Back

I think Old Lady Winter came back. Had three inches of snow on the ground at 8:00 a.m. and it has been sleeting, raining snowing off and on all day. Only about 33 degrees. Tonite, it all changes to snow and we are expected to get a coating to 2 inches. It just won't let go of us. It was a good bad to stay put and work on our books. Take inventory out, put inventory in. Pay sales tax and get get everything ready to send off to the accountant. Yes, I'm one of those who waits and waits. LOL. Just noticed that the wind is picking up a bit, great we will probably loose power!! Have a good evening folks.

Spring? What Spring?

Well this morning at 5:45 a.m. it was snowing to beat the bands, then rain, then sleet, then snow again. Delayed school openings not too far from us, oh my. Even the ducks are ticked off, I guess they thought they were heading outside today, seeing as it was Spring!! Township truck went by a short while ago, spreading salt!! And the weather weenies say we can expect more of this on Wednesday!! Well, let's hope between today and Wednesday's weather this will be our Onion snow and then we are done. I will not shovel anymore snow. How's that for showing them who's boss!! LOL. I was reminded by a very dear friend that it was time to change my header picture. She must have been reading my mind. Full Worm Moon

Don't forget to take time out of your busy evening and check out the Full Worm Moon tonight. It is called the Worm Moon because, as the Sun increasingly warms the soil, earthworms become active and their castings (excrement) begin to appear. Also, NASA is calling it the SUPER Moon because it is about 14% bigger and 30% brighter then normal. This has not happened since 1993 and won't happen again for another 29 years. Been Busy Doing Stuff

Not sure where the first half of this month went. I have been busy with my Mon-Fri. job in the constrution business. Things are picking up a bit, so I need to be on board with that. Also, show season is picking up. We have had shows in January and February, of which we had not had in the past, so that is a good thing. And this past weekend we had a two day show. We were very happy that the rain had stopped by the time we needed to load in on Friday and that the rest of the weekend was rain free. Shows take alot out of people, pack your truck, load into the venue, set-up, selling (hopefully), break down, pack the van and then unload the van. Very much I'm guessing the same as if I had a retail store that I needed to prepare for customers, except I don't get to stay put!! But, we are very happy that we do have customers in today's economy when there is so much I'm sure that they could spend their money on. I have been reading everyone's blogs about their Spring decorating/events, I just didn't have time to post on my own blog, but I did comment on many of yours. In Like A Lamb

Well, March rolled in like a lamb. And, boy was it ever nice out today. Sun shining bright, birds singing, I even stood outside on the jobsite and talked a while with my people. Did you know I had people? That's what I call the sub-contractors that work with me, MY PEOPLE. We are headed out tomorrow to meet up with a couple of other antique dealer friends to do a little shopping, thank goodness we don't deal in too much of the same thing, or their could be trouble, LOL. Hope everyone is enjoying their evening and doing what makes you happy. Almost forgot, I picked up Country Sampler's Home Tour Edition 2011, only just started going through it, and I like what I see. Nose to the Grindstone

It's time for us to put our noses to the grindstone. We have another show coming up on March 12 & 13, in Bath, PA. Not very far from our home. The show is three years young, this will be our second year setting up our wares. Our show on Saturday in Long Valley, NJ went very well. Our first time setting up there and we look forward to going back again. Sold items that we had been carrying for awhile. But, now we need to fill in those blank spots on our tables. It was great to see so many people out and about, including some old friends who we did not expect to see. Lots of laughs, hugs and tears. We had a power failure this morning and boy I have just been out of sorts every since. I had to get ready to go out to the jobsite in the dark, maybe that is the cause of my blues. Still recovering from our early, early day on Saturday. We got up at 4:00 a.m. to be on the road by 5:30. Guess I'm not as young as I thought, LOL. Tonite will be a early night. It's raining, windy and slighty warm, go figure. Good night for a cup of tea and some Girl Scout Cookies, YUM. Take care one and all.

We will be heading out shortly to Long Valley, NJ. We are able to load in tonight for our show tomorrow. We are not allowed to set anything out, but at least we can get all of our tables and inventory in. Then we head back out tomorrow before the rooster crows (like 5:30 a.m.) to set up for a 9:30 a.m. start. Show is until 4:30. Weather sure has been crazy this week, little snow, lots of wind, rain. But, it's still Winter and it's February, seems like it's been Winter since Novemeber!! I do not have off today, but I won't be too busy, just don't have alot of work when you work in construction and it's WINTER, have I said that enough, LOL. Full Snow Moon

Well, after a beautiful day tonite we should be able to see the Full Snow Moon or some like to call it Full Hunger Moon. It is at this time that we could get heavy snow (Full Snow Moon) therefore making it difficult to hunt (Full Hunger Moon). I plan to check it out tonite, shouldn't be cold and I'm not going hunting, so what else do I have to do!! LOL. Have a good weekend. Winterfest

Good Morning Blog Friends, I know many, many of our retail shopkeepers are getting ready for Spring, some are even starting today with their Spring Market (hint, try and guess who). But, for some we still need to clear out the cob webs from Winter. So, starting tomorrow 2/17/11 through and including Monday 2/21/11 Weil Antiques Center will be holding their Winterfest Sale. Be sure to stop in and see what the dealers are offering!! We personally will be having 10% off everything in our booth, except for items marked "firm" which are not many!! Our booth number is 145. Weil has great hours, M-F 10 to 6, Sat. 10-5 and Sun. 11-5, so there are no excuses for not making it in, except I guess if you live in Iowa!! LOL. But, hey what a road trip it would be.

But, one standard weather lore which does not change from year to year is and I quote " One Fine Week in February". So, once we get through today (cold) here in Williams Township, PA, I believe we will have our one fine week. After that, it's anyone's guess. Well, here in Williams Township it is above 32 degrees and birds are singing. And, speaking of birds the Redwing Blackbirds are staring to return to our yard. We have two males!! LOL. We have had one for about a week now and this morning I noticed the second one. Redwing Blackbirds are one the first birds to return to PA at the end of the Winter. They are sure hungry, so they must have being flying from a long ways off. Hope everyone is enjoying their Sunday and Valentine's Weekend.

So, while the sun was shining Les and I went up to our attic to go through our stash. We pulled down three totes of stuff of which most will be going on my e-crater store. Well, we turned the page on the calender to February, but we did not turn the page on the weather. I don't believe that there is anyone that will not be touched by this latest storm that is upon us. Though, by the blogs that I am reading we are all becoming old hands that this. We are all stocked up on the usual staples, bread, eggs and milk. Candles are at the ready, wood has been brought in, extra water is on hand. For some, their favorite garden books or magazines are spread out across the Kitchen table, cup of tea near by while they thumb their way thru Spring. While others have their handy work at the ready if the power should go out. For me, I decided that today will be the day I tackle the work/home office. Time to file papers (ugh), work on the books for the business and just tidy up in general. Whatever you are planning on doing this 1st day of February, be safe, stay warm and enjoy!!

Our New Best Friend

So, now I know where all the bird seed goes. I knew we had lots of birds, but they couldn't eat it all in two days. Seriously, I'm out filling two seed feeders, two sunflower feeders and one suet feeder every two days. And now I know why. No, really I did know that we had this doe and two of her girl friends from time to time, but today was the first time (that I know of) that she came to the feeders in daylight. It was just 4:30 p.m. I had not been back in the house for ten minutes from filling all of the above when I spotted her. Isn't she beautiful. She and her friends can come anytime they want. Two cars even went by, slowed down, mouths wide open and she didn't move one bit. She sure was hungry!!

It's National Blueberry Pancake Day

I think this food holiday should have been yesterday when we were snowed in. But, what's to say we can't have these for dinner. Les & I enjoy having breakfast for dinner some days. Well here at ginnysyard we are just about dug out. Cars need to cleaned off, that will happen shortly. We will be headed over to our booth (#145) at Weil Antiques Center. Haven't been there in about a week, need to check, fluff up and add a few items. One item that I am adding is a wood sewing box. I was over at Holly Hills Primitives and Dawn posted a picture with the idea of using the sewing box to hold all of the remotes that so many of us have. I was thinking about putting the box in the booth before reading her blog, but now I have a cleaver idea to let our customers know that there is another idea for the box. National Pie Day

1st Antique Show of the Year

We had our first antique show of the year this past weekend (Fri.&Sat.). This was a new show for us and it was okay, nothing to get too excited about, but after all it is less then a month since Christmas and bills are coming in, so we are grateful that we did have some sales. The weather was good, except for the dealers who had to unload their vehicles curbside into snow banks, LOL. But, that is one of hazards you endure when you agree to a Winter show. Other then our show we had a quite day on Sunday. Getting ready for the next batch of weather, so we may head out later today and check on our booth at Weil Antique Center. Also, don't forget to tip your hat to Benjamin Franklin, today is his birthday. Enjoy your day.

New Header Picture

The new header picture is of our one acre pond. Taken this morning (1/12/11) after it stopped snowing. Looking at this picture made me forget all the hard work that waited for us in the driveway, LOL. Minivan is all packed, we did it yesterday before the snow started. We head off to Yardley, PA Thursday morning to set-up for our antique show. This is a new show for us. Hope the weather doesn't prevent the public in getting to us. Plough Monday

First Auction of the Year

What were they thinking is what you are probably asking yourselfs. But, all in all, the snow stopped here at about 11: 30 or so, then the sun came out and out we went. Now going into this we knew it was not going to be an all day auction, but we were out of there in less then two hours. Most of the items were outside, do I hear a Brrr? But, that was okay what we wanted was outside and we knew once we got what we went for we were out of there!! So, what did we get besides, cold hands, cold feet and runny noses? Not a whole heck of alot. We did get a four gallon crock, small chip on the rim, but it sounds & looks good. And then got a pair of white wooden goat cart wheels. Original paint still in good shape. And that my friends was it. I did try for a raised three panel shutter (only one) but it was in real good shape and our decorators who purchase from us would have scooped it up in a minute. But, I stopped at $20.00 and it kept on going. In all honesty there was not much else, but people were spending their Christmas money, like there would never be another Christmas. No Big Hurry

I have been reading blogs and facebook on and off all weekend and it seems the the thing to do this past weekend and maybe a little before was to take down the Christmas decorations. Now I know all of you retailers need to do this to make room for the next big holiday, St.Valentine's Day. But, I'm a little surprized how many folks have dismantled the their house to put it back the way it was without Christmas. But, not me I will let my decorations linger until Candlemas Day. Some how that has become our tradition. Maybe it is because I don't decorate alot or maybe it's because I have not put up a tree in a very long while, but I'm still enjoying the lights, the smells, even watched a few Hallmark Christmas movies this weekend. But, hey that is just me. Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season, even if you did take down your decorations. LOL

Day trip to Hereford and beyond

It was great to finally get out. No wind, not too cold and some sunshine. 1st stop; Cinnamon Stick, Hereford, PA. You all know Judy Doyle and if you don't, you need too. LOVE, LOVE her shop. So many great things to give to yourself, LOL or away. I suggest yourself, but that's me! And ladies when I say you need to see her new Make-Do Room on the second floor, well just get in the car and step on the gas. I want a room like that. I told Judy that I was going to come and just hang out up there and of course she said you go right ahead. Thanks Judy. After chatting and hugging goodbye we were off to our next stop, The Milkhouse Antiques Shop, sorry I forget the town, but it was on Horseshoe Pike, big, big old barn. Now, don't scream folks, but I was a bit disappointed. Loved the front entrance yard, lots of garden art peeking out of the snow and garden art is one of my favorite things, but, once inside I found too many repro's, not what a antiques dealer likes to see when they are looking to buy. Now, I know there are many reasons for what people sell and that is their business, but let's just say that we won't be going back too soon. Well enough of my goings on. Have a great evening

Big Night in The Skys and Last Minute Things

Well, it's a good thing Old St.Nick isn't riding thru the skys in the next 24 hours or so. We have a Full Lunar Eclipse, a Full Cold Moon and the Winter Solstice all coming up. All we need is a big ole snowstorm (only kidding ladies), I would panic too if that happened. Still need to go to the grocery store this week. Gift shopping is all done, but then I only have Les to buy for, oh yeah and the cats and ducks. Cats will get a toy from the grocery store and the ducks will get some extra spinach, LOL. We don't decorate that much since we got our two cats. They are terrors and for the first time in years we put up a small tree, so far it's still standing and I believe that it will. They are not one bit interested in it, that is until I go to put a decoration on it, then they check it out, but checking is all they have done. Still need to do baking, but there again not alot. It will be just Les & I and we like things simple. My biggest love is sitting in my chair all covered up and watch old movies or reading a book on Christmas Day, dinner will be some type of pasta, nice and easy. I bought my book weeks ago, so I will be set. Work is picking up (this is a very good thing) and keeping me busy. I need to go and write out my shopping list, I know that I will be there a long time and I don't want to forget anything if I can help it. Decorating the Kitchen

Good Evening All, Boy has it been cold here in Williams Township, a.k.a Hellertown, PA. A little too cold this early in December. I have been busy today decorating the my Kitchen. It isn't really Christmas decorating, more like Winter decorating. I have a bit more tweaking, then I will take pictures and post them. Along with decorating I made Tomato sauce & meatballs and Beef Burger Soup. I/we have a busy week coming up and at least I will have dinner made for he nights we will get home late. Thank you to the couple of new followers to my blog, I love it when I see someone is interested in seeing what I have to say. Now, mind you I don't have alot of followers, but I do appericate each one of you. I hope you all are enjoying your Sunday doing whatever makes you smile. December, It's Here

Les and I are going out as we need all the time we can to get ready for our final antiques show of 2010. All in all in has been a good year for us at our shows. Many of the shows we have been doing 3 to 4 years and now we have a following (Antique Groupies) which is the best. Nothing like return customers, even if they just stop by your booth to say Hi. Our show this weekend is the 41st Annual Show & Sale @ Hunterdon Central Field House, 84 Rt.31, Flemington, NJ. Sat 9:00 to 4:00, Sun. 10:00 to 3:00.

Looking forward to seeing some of our good friends from NJ who will be stopping by.

Can't Last Forever

The beautiful days that we have been having here in PA are what can't last forever. So, this morning (late morning I should say) after I returned from the grocery store, outside I went. I decided to run the lawnmower one more time, actually to run the gas out before its stored for the Winter. But, before I could do that I needed to move all the garden art. Benches, boxes, wagons, you name it, it's out there. Someone should keep an eye out on me when I'm at a auction, way too much "stuff" comes home with me. LOL!! So, after running the lawnmower out of gas, which happened to be right in the middle of the front lawn I needed to fill it with some more gas, but I was smart and only added a small amount. It is amazing though how far a little bit of gas goes. But, the lawn is mowed and "stuff" is piled in the rear of the yard waiting to be put away. And I feel good, weather is beautiful outside, and I was able to get things done. And besides I didn't want to do all the tasks waiting for me inside!!

One Down, One To Go

Antiques Show that is. This past weekend we were in Allentown, Pa @ Ag-Hall annex for Antiques in the Lehigh Valley. It was a so so show for us. What we would call a fair crowd, but not too many buyers. Therefore, we came home with just about the same amount that we took. But, in all honesty this has been our first off show for 2010, so we can't complain too much. I will post our next upcoming show in a few days. Hope everyone had a Happy Halloween, now to get ready for turkey day!! But, first gotta knock off some of the candy.

Fall Veggies

We are having some warm weather here in the Lehigh Valley (PA) and my neighbor stopped over yesterday to give us some of the bounty that he had collected from his garden. What Will The Room Become

Many of you know that Les & I have a antiques business. Most (and I do mean most) of our inventory is stored on our property. Two sheds and inside of our house. In our home we have what I'm guessing would be called a Living Room. It has a door to the outside (our front yard) a large window facing our front yard, two side windows that look out onto our Mud Porch, a doorway to the Kitchen, Family Room and my home office. The stairs also come down into this room and there is a door to a very, very small closet (original bathroom). This is the room where the pieces of furniture that go to shows with us get deposited. This room also has my 45" loom in it, spinning wheels (one is for sale), etc. We have never used this room as a LR and now we are think that we should set it up more like a Antique Shop. The idea is growing on me. When I can I will post before and after pictures. Stay Tuned.

Getting The Ducks Ready For Winter

With the beautiful weather we are having today I decided it was time to clean out the duck pens. So, early this morning "The Girls" went outside. They are slightly younger then the boys and can get around quite good. DD aka Danger Duck has been lame for quite sometime now and I decided that he and our other boy would not venture out. The pens were not that bad, considering they have not been cleaned out for quite sometime. It's not a easy task when you are trying to clean around two ducks who need to see what you are doing. But, they are all done and fresh straw is now in place. This will probably the last time they will get cleaned out this year, but when the ducks don't go out every day and don't eat or drink in the pens, they really stay quite clean. There was a time when I had my dozen or so ducks that the pens were cleaned every weekend!! But no more, I have learned alot since those days. My fun will begin in a little while when I try and get the girls back in. But for now they are enjoying their pond and just maybe they will wear themselves out and want to head in to the Duck Hilton tonite. I have posted a new header picture, Fall at Ginnysyard. But, it was more like Summer today. Low 80's and a bit humid, tomorrow should be more humid!! Then we are back to more seasonable temps for the weekend. Les and I have been quite busy with our Antique Shows and going to auctions, flea markets and yard sales to re-stock. We have had some really good shows all Spring & Summer and the Fall looks to be just as promising. On Saturday we are heading back to the town we grew-up in, Metuchen, NJ. There is a rummage sale that we are told we should not miss and then the whole town is having a town wide Yard Sale!! Sounds like fun. We may even meet up with my sister and have lunch. This is just a short post, but I hope to get back in to the swing of blogging again real soon. Enjoy your weekend. P.S. My calendar tells me it is a Full Harvest Moon tonite, I gotta go see if is out, it was pretty cloudy before.

Thank goodness we didn't have any shows in July, I'm not sure how we would have made it in all the heat and humidity we had. But, now we are on to August and we have shows coming up. two this month then one every month thru November. Here is the info for our next Show;

Oh not the heat and humidity that we experienced here is PA, but all the memories that were made this month. We started out with a "Friends Reunion" on the 10th of July back in the town of Metuchen. NJ where Les & I both grew up. This reunion was a group of the people that we went to high school with or friends that we made when we were out of school. We had people come from Wisconsin, Colorado, Maine, Virginia, Florida, Pennsylvania, New Jersey. It took place in Metuchen at a very special couples home. Plenty of good friends, good food, good times. Our friend from Colorado came and stayed at our house for a couple of days, so there were more memories made. Then today we had childhood friends of Les' that he went to grammer school and beyond with, along with their Mom, who was very good friends with Les' parents. We had a good visit here at the house, then lunch at the local diner and onto showing them the sites of Hellertown and Bethlehem. So........that's why we will miss July. Our only hope is that we all can get together again and share this month's memories and make some more.

Gone Too Long

That's me, gone too long from blogging. I do read everyday all of the blogs that I follow, but I guess I didn't have anything to say. Still only working two days a week, so that is a bummer, but our Antiques Shows are now in full swing and that is keeping us busy. We were at Tinicum Park on Route 32 in Erwinna last Sunday and boy what a show we had. Our best ever, EVER!!! We started off to a slow start this year but after Sunday, we have happy faces :) :). We are also getting are house ready for a house guest in July. We have not seen a very dear friend in just about 40 years, so we are excited about that, but oh does our house need attention. I think it would be easier to throw out all the stuff that is in my way and start over. My garden is growing, got a small tomato on my Early Girl plant and the pepper plants have flowers, we are doing the pepper plants in containers along with a tomato plant, something new for us, but a less work work when you have rocks for soil :(. Tomorrow we are off to a auction, Les will be working the auction and with any luck I will be spending. We need to stock up after Sunday, a real problem that we are low on inventory (yeah right). They're Hatching

The goslings that is. I went out this evening to throw leftover corn from my ducks out to Mr. & Mrs. Goose and there it was. One fluffy gosling sitting on Momma's back. I watched for a few minutes and left them alone with their new babe. I'm sure there are more, but there is always one that is a rebel and has to break loose no matter how young they are. I will try and get some pictures posted this weekend of the whole family.

Good Morning All. Shortly we will heading off to New Hope, PA for our Saturday Antique Show @ Eagle Hall Firehouse. It is located on Sugan Road and Route 202. This show supports pediatric aids, great cause!! Truck is almost packed, just need to add a few more items and that will be it. I have a new header picture, thats our Red Bud tree with the pond behind it. Les needs to fix the picture for me or at least show me how and then you might even get to see the goose sitting on her nest. She has eight eggs and is being a very good Mom, gets off only once a day to take a bath and eat some grass or corn that I have left over from the ducks. Well, I need to get a move on. Ducks, Geese, Peepers, Oh My!!

Well Spring is here. Boy, it was a long Winter, I know I have heard this many, many people. But, here in Ginnysyard Spring is Springing up all over the place. For the last seven or eight days we have had a pair of Canada geese, and a pair of Mallards on the pond. I'm sure they are checking us out to see if our pond is fit to raise their young ones. Other then cutting grass around the pond, which won't be happening for a while (I hope) the wildlife will nest in peace and quite. Also, peepers (little frogs) have been singing their little song for a few nights now, we have heard them in the surrounding ponds and I sure it won't be long before they are singing in our backyard as well. Daffodils are blooming as well!!

They Have Arrived

You ask what has arrived at Ginnysyard? Red Wing Blackbirds, the offical bird of Spring in Pennsylvania. I read somewhere last year, I believe it was the local newspaper that it was not the Robin that announced Spring in PA but, it was the Red Wing Blackbirds. So, this morning as I was looking at the birds eating the seeds at the feeders there were two male Red Wing Blackbirds eating the seeds on the ground. So, can Spring be far behind? Temps this weekend are going to be in the 40's and even dare I say? Approach 50 on Sunday. So, here is a big THANK YOU to the Red Wing Blackbirds for coming to my feeder today and making me smile.

Full Snow Moon

Tonight February 28, 2010 is the Full Snow Moon. It is called the Snow Moon because heavy snows usually occur during the month of February. If you live anywhere on the East Coast, I believe this year you have experienced some type of snowstorm this month. We have had off and on snow squalls all weekend long, they don't amount to much but after the storms that we have had the past couple of weeks, panic sets in when you see in coming down. We did mange to get out to the shop today and get a few pieces of furniture ready for our booth at Weil Antiques Center, the snow storms has stopped us from getting in to our booth to replenish.And with our antique shows starting up in about two weeks time will be tight, but hey if we didn't like this life we wouldn't be doing it! I have been drooling over Country Sampler Home Tour edition in my spare time, I'm not even halfway thru, I'm reading all the stories and tips and enjoying the pictures. I'm still looking for the new magazine Flea Market, can't seem to locate it in our area. Well, I need to read some blogs and see what auctions are on the agenda for this week, have a Good Evening.

Spring, Please Hurry We Need A Bath

Hi Everyone, We are the ducks from Ginnysyard. We live in the Duck Hilton during the Winter months and in the evenings in the warmer months, Mom (aka Ginny) doesn't leave us out during the Winter, cuz we really can't walk in the snow too good and then in the warmer months we have to go in at night because there are things outside that like to eat ducks!! But, we really need Spring to come so that we can go in our big pond and take a bath. Three of us really don't show the dirt, but boy that Danger Duck (White Pekin) sure does. Well Mom wants to read some blogs and look at the new Country Sampler Home Tours Edition and we need our rest, we are only ducks you know!!

Fastnacht Day

Fastnacht Day is a old German custom, which translates into clearing the house of fat on the day before Lent starts. Or Fat Tuesday. Growing up in NJ this was a new custom to me and my family when we moved to PA over 20 plus years ago. But, it was a custom that we grew to like very much. Everyone has their version of fastnacht's I'm sure, I usually pick up ours at the bakery in our local Giant. I think someday I would love to try a homemade one. It is snowing here in Williams Township once again, this is getting really old and I and Les are getting ready for Spring and once Spring starts so do all of our Antique Shows! We are less then one month away from our first. I will post info on that show in the next week or so. Have a Great Fastnacht Day!!

Put Your Red Dress On!!

Tomorrow 2/5/10 is National Wear Red Day. To show your support for heart disease which is the #1 killer in women we all need to wear RED. It is nationally sponsored by Macy's and Merck. I will be going to Weil Antique Center the antique mall, where we have our booth (#145) and it is a big old warehouse which tends to be a bit cool, so I know I will have a sweatshirt on and it will be RED!

And if you live in the Northeast, you need to run out and get Milk, Bread and Eggs and anything else that you can't live without, because it's coming, SNOW!! It has been the only thing that the weather weenies have talked about for days. It was almost as bad as all the hoopla over Tiger Woods. Well, I need to get things done, so I will close for now. Chicken Dinner

Good Saturday Evening All, I had to post and tell you about the great dinner (if I say so myself) that we had. I picked up a Oven Ready Perdue Chicken Breast the other day and thought that I would give it a try. Here is the best part (I think) you can roast this chicken while it is frozen!! It comes in what I think looks like a bowling bag, with Perdue's yellow and blue colors on the bag. The chicken is inside of this bag in a roasting bag all seasoned. You place the frozen chicken in a baking pan for 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 hours at 400 degrees, let it rest for 10 minutes and then enjoy. It was sooooo good, the skin on the breast got nice and crispy and the seasonings were good. I added to the chicken to round out the meal, stuffing, green beans, cranberry sauce and hot biscuits. Les said he could eat this meal every week!! I forgot to mention that the chicken breat was 3#'s whihc was plenty for us with some leftovers. I hope everyoine is enjoying their weekend. It has been very, very cold here in PA, suppose to get better just in time for everyone to go back to work. Can Spring be that far away??

Rainy Sunday & Comfort Food

Hope everyone is having a good weekend. Here In Williams Township it has been raining since about noon. On days like this I think "comfort food". So, in the crockpot is a beef stew for later in the week, we think stew always tastes better if you let it sit for a day or so. On the stove is Macaroni & Beans, for dinner tonight and just out of the oven is Bread Pudding for dessert. My receipe for bread pudding could not be easier. Here is the receipe.

7 or 8 slices of white bread, 3/4" size pieces (I use a mixture of Italian and White bread, and I make sure it is stale)

3 cups of hot milk
2 beaten eggs
2/3 cup sugar
1/4 tsp salt
1 tbs butter
1 1/2 tbs vanilla extract
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/4 tsp baking powder

Coat a 9" x 12" casserole dish with butter. Pull bread into 3/4" pieces & put aside. Combine remaining ingredients and mix well. Add the bread and mix well.

Add to casserole dish and sprinkle with nutmeg/cinnamon (I use both)

Bake in 350 degree oven for 45 minutes.

We like it when it is warm, but it is good anytime, Enjoy!!

Top 10 of 2010 Collectibles #2

According to Country Sampler insulators are one of the 2010 hot collectibles. But, what do you with with them. Place them on a window sill? Place them on a bookshelf? Well, we came up with another idea. Let me explain. First you take a clean insulator clear or colored your choice and you tie a ribbon or raffia around it, like below.

Then you get a battery operated tea light. I picked up ours at The Dollar Tree, two in a pack for $1.00. They should have 60 hours of light. We will see.

Turn on the tea light, place under the insulator and there you have it. A safe, pretty light accent for your Primitive or Country home.

At our last Antique Show we placed these in between boxes, on shelves and tables and they looked great. They caught many a eye and we even sold a couple of them. I am going to be offering these for sale on my ecrater store in the very near future.

Changes

Good Evening All. I have waited until the Holidays were over to post this blog simply because I did not want to put a downer on anyone's celebrations, including my own. Some of you may know that I work in new home construction. Need I say more!! I have been working four days a week for the last 1 1/2 years and grew a custom to one day less pay, etc. Well, now I'm down to two days a week and will be collecting unemployment for the other three. So, will there be changes? You bet. Some will be tough, cutting back on expenses for one, though Les and I are pretty much home bodies, we do attend auctions for our Antique business, BlackDuck Antiques and at times it can get pricey, like when you have to have that great looking piece of agate and so does some other lady and you have to battle it out!! But, I'm also looking forward to blogging some more, getting more items posted to my e-store as well as our e-store for BlackDuck Antiques and whipping our booth into shape at Weil Antique Center in Allentown. So, while I don't think I will be bored because I can always clean up the house (that will be my last resort) things will change, but one never knows, it may be a good change. Have a great evening.

Once In A Blue Moon & A Cute Camper

Happy New Year Friends. Well, it happens every 19 years. Two full moons in one month, hence once in a blue moon. The first full moon of this month was on Dec. 2nd and was also called the Full Cold Moon. Tonight's full moon is called Full Long Nights moon. What a night to have the full moon on, New Year's Eve!! Enough goes on tonite without the full moon. So, use caution if traveling about. Here in Hellertown, PA we had snow this a.m. And boy did it come down for a couple of hours, caught everyone off guard I'm sure. Hopefully the roads will be in good shape for traveling tonight.

A Visit With The Sisters

Well, I gave in. I went to New Jersey. I picked up my sister Irene who lives about 20 minutes from me and we met up with our sister Marge in Franklin Park, NJ. Where we visted with our oldest sister Joan who resides in a nursing home. Marge, Irene and myself see each other every couple of months (sometimes longer) but for me it has been years since I saw my oldest sister. We are a family of five, four girls, one boy. My brother was the missing link yesterday, he is not in the best of health and I think it would have been too much for him. I actually don't have very health siblings. Marge and myself are the healthy ones out of the bunch. But, enough of that. Our sister visit was good, we sat and talk about family, parents, kids, etc. Had lunch and doughnuts and coffee with our sister Joan before heading back to PA. And I'm glad that I gave in and went, as my siblings are all older then me, and one nevers knows how long anyone of us has here on Earth. I'm off this week from work, taking my unused vacation days. I really didn't do much today, but I'm tired. Tomorrow we will be checking out our weekly auction, I let you know what we find. Have a good evening.

A Magical Night

With tonight being Christmas Eve magical things can occur-one of which is the Lithuanian folklore belief that animals can speak. Anyone still possessing a barn that contains farm animals can- if they're very quiet and careful-sneak up to it at midnight and hear their livestock discussing their master; just as the animals in the stable on the first Christmas night discussed the arrival of the Great Master. Beekeepers can-if they put their ear to the hive hear their bees inside humming Christmas carols. And of course your pets can speak tonight as well and understand anything said to them. So be very careful what you say and have a MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

Baking and Shoveling

Yes, that is what I did this weekend. And, thankfully it was more baking then shoveling. Here is Williams Township, PA we got 8 inches of snow and yes, the snow blower was already to go, not like two weeks ago when we did it all by shovel. But, while the snow was falling yesterday I got into baking. Not sure how much more I will do, as there is only two of us and how much can we eat. Or should I say how much should we eat. But, on to the baking, I made Peanut Blossoms and Hungarian Coffe Cake. The Peanut Blossoms were a requested from Les and the coffee cake I thought would be nice to have with a cup of tea and a cold and blustery night (like tonight). I thought that I would post the receipe for the Peanut Blossoms first and then post the coffee cake receipe in a day or so along with information on my on-line store. So, here goes, it is so easy.

1 14ounce can of condensed milk, NOT evaporated
3/4 to 1 cup of Peanut Butter (I use one cup)
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups of Bisquick Baking Mix
1 bag of Hershey Kisses, milk or dark chocolate

Preheat oven to 350. In large mixer bowl beat milk, peanut butter, egg and vanilla until smooth. Add biscuit mix, mix well. Chill for at least 1 hour. After the dough has chilled, shape into 1 inch balls, place 2 inches apart on a ungreased baking sheet. Bake for 6 to 8 minutes, no longer. Immediately after taking from oven, press a milk or dark chocolate, Hershey Kiss into the center of each cookie. Enjoy!! Time for a tea and cookie break.

If it's Tuesday, It Must Be Auction Day

That's where we were today, at a auction. Tuesday's are my day off and we attend a auction just about every Tuesday to replenish our stock for Black Duck Antiques. We got some neat stuff, a couple of benches (for those of you who have front/back porches), a primitive garden sieve, a make do medicine cabinet (needs a good cleaning) some advertising tins (tea, soap, etc) a piece of Wedgewood, which is not something I normally buy, but for some reason I can sell a piece here and there. Today's piece cost $3.00, can't go wrong there. And my favorite from today's haul are 12 pieces of handmade (in Germany) winter ornaments. They are made out of some type metal (heavier then tin) and painted. There are trees, sleds with horses, a few people and a snowman. The set will most likely go to one of our shows next year. Oh yeah and a pantry box, which has been repaired, but it's got some age to it and I will most likely keep that for my self. Well, its been a long day of sitting and we may head to another auction tomorrow, but we will need to see what the weather will bring, our weather weenies are calling for another 1-3 inches of snow before turning to rain!! We will see. Have a good evening
